Youth Giving Project

Youth funding ideas to inspire and impact their communities.

WHAT IS THE YOUTH GIVING PROJECT?
Youth Giving Project (YGP) is a youth philanthropy program that helps young people develop leadership skills and experience the importance of community involvement and philanthropy. YGP collaborates with the Bozeman Youth Initiative, Foundant Technologies and the Bozeman Area Community Foundation in addressing youth needs in our community.

GRANT OPPORTUNITY
YGP realizes that it takes a community of inspired people of all ages working together to solve challenges, seize opportunities, and meet the needs of our growing valley.  This year, YGP's funding will be used to support ideas that are led by youth that will impact our community in meaningful ways.

APPLICATION TIMELINE
Applications are open from February 1 - March 1, 2016.  All requests must be submitted using the online YGP Grant Application online.  Funds will be available in May 2016 and must be used within one year from receiving the grant and a follow-up report, detailing how the funds were used, is required.

BY PARTNERING WITH FOUNDANT TECHNOLOGIES & THE BOZEMAN AREA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION ON THE YOUTH GIVING PROJECT, BYI IS ABLE TO GREATLY EXTEND THE REACH OF OUR WORK MENTORING, SUPPORTING & FUNDING YOUTH-DRIVEN COMMUNITY PROJECTS, LIKE THE 2015 PROJECT SKATEPARK, A VOLUNTEER-LED CLEAN-UP OF A LOCAL SKATEPARK AND AN ALL-AGES SKATEBOARD COMPETITION TO RAISE MONEY FOR THE PARK FUND - CONCEIVED AND EXECUTED, WITH HELP FROM BYI,  BY STUDENT IN CASSIE UBALDO'S "FRESHMAN STRATEGIES" CLASS AT BOZEMAN HIGH SCHOOL.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE GRANT

-If you are applying as an individual - not as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization - talk to EJ Porth at Bozeman Youth Initiative, about your project, before applying.
-Grant project or idea must be a youth-led initiative.  Youth must be directly involved in the development and/or implementation of the project.
-Grant award will not be larger than $2,500 per project.  However, small grants are encouraged.  The overall project budget can be more than $2,500.
-YGP representatives are happy to meet with applicants to answer questions and help each project present the strongest possible application; helping young people learn this process is as important to BYI as assisting with the projects themselves.
-People awarded grants will have to submit short reports on completed projects.

PROJECTS NOT FUNDED
-Projects with religious purposes (although, grants can be given to religious organizations for non-religious purposes.)
